Promote true democracy and foster economic development…President Maada Bio to Africa Parliaments

President of Sierra Leone, Mr. Julius Maada Bio has called on the leadership of the various Parliaments across the African sub-region to promote true democracy and foster economic development.

According to the Sierra Leonean President, the current happenings in Europe and other places should be a wake-up call for governments and Parliaments across the African sub-region to promote democracy and foster economic development.

He made this whiles delivering an address at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPA) Africa Regional Conference currently underway in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Mr. Maada Bio again urged African governments to take advantage of regional legislative Instruments to work towards a common passport, market, and a single custom and monetary union.

President Maada Bio also appealed to African leaders to put in place appropriate measures for the betterment of all CPA members.

The Acting CPA international chairperson, Ian Liddel-Grainger, reiterated the CPA’s commitment to continue pushing for a change in the legal status of the association.

The speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin is expected to address the delegates attending the conference on Tuesday, 7th June 2022 on the topic the “Role of African Parliaments in accelerating intra-African trade.”

The 52nd Regional conference and annual general meeting which is on the theme “The Role of African Parliaments in Building inclusive society to counter growing insecurity in Africa” is expected to strengthen parliamentary democracy in Africa.
