Deputy Director at the Savannah Agriculture Research Institute, Dr. Roger Kanton has said there is the need for government to re-engineer innovative ways of supporting farmers to produce more to feed the nation and for export.

Speaking to Radio Ghana on the rate of smuggling of subsidised fertilizer to neighbouring countries from the Northern Region, Dr. Kanton called for the smugglers to be severely punished.

He said under the present circumstances, government is only investing in the Agriculture production of sister nations.

Dr. Kanton suggested the provision of quality seeds and other inputs to the poor farmer instead of subsidising fertilizer.
