Residents of Clayso and its surrounding communities in Dumasua, within the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region, can finally breathe a sigh of relief following decisive intervention by the Bono Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

For nearly a year, households and businesses in the area have grappled with persistent power instability, an ordeal that disrupted livelihoods, strained small enterprises, and cast uncertainty over daily life.

From damaged electrical appliances to stalled economic activity, the impact of the erratic electricity supply had become a source of growing frustration among residents.

Driven by mounting concerns, residents formally petitioned the PURC, seeking urgent action to address what they described as an unbearable situation.

Responding swiftly, the Bono Regional Office of the PURC engaged the Sunyani Area Office of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), triggering a coordinated effort to resolve the long-standing challenge.

The intervention has culminated in the successful installation and injection of a new transformer in Clayso an upgrade expected to significantly stabilize power supply and restore normalcy to the community.

Officials say the move is part of a broader commitment to ensuring reliable electricity distribution across underserved areas.

As part of the long-term solution, NEDCo has also announced plans to construct a substation in the area, a development expected to further enhance power reliability and meet growing demand.

Residents have welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and transformative.

“This has been a major challenge for us for a long time. Our businesses were suffering, and even basic household activities became difficult. We are grateful to PURC and NEDCo for responding to our concerns,” one resident noted.

The PURC’s action underscores its regulatory mandate to protect consumer interests and ensure utility providers deliver efficient and reliable services.

As power supply stabilizes in Clayso, the intervention stands as a testament to the impact of responsive governance and the importance of citizen engagement in addressing critical service delivery challenges.
