Security Analyst Adam Bonaa has waded into the argument on whether some of the requirements for enlistment into the security agencies are necessary. Applicants with body scars, stretch marks and tattoos as well as those with body image issues, are automatically disqualified in the recruitment into the Immigration and Fire Services.

Some experts have argued that these requirements do not affect the performance of a recruit. Mr. Bonaa disagrees and has justified his stance on the matter with some examples. For instance, people who lack the required height will not be able to operate certain equipment in the military while applicants who stammer are likely to have their performance affected as Police Officers. Mr. Bonaa said these requirements are not limited to Ghana or West Africa, hence arguments against them are debatable.

”When you look at the issue of height, people have said what has it got to do with security and so when I hear people say there is nothing wrong, I tell them there is something wrong. You should be able to mount any of these military vehicles unaided. If you have tattoos on your skin it’s the same as bleaching and this is unacceptable worldwide, not just Ghana”, he posited.
