Rent Control Department to digitize its operations – Freda Prempeh

The Minister-nominee for Works and Housing, Freda Prempeh has described as unfortunate the lack of recognition faced by the Rent Control Department which she says contributes to its current sorry state.

She said when given the nod, she will work with the substantive Minister to devise strategies to support the Department. Key among them would be digitizing its operations.

She made this known during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

She said government is committed to rolling out rural housing projects aimed at bridging the housing deficit in the country.

Also before the Appointment Committee was the Minister for Youth and Sports nominee, Mustapha Ussif.

He said the investigative report into the Australia visa scandal that rocked the country’s participation at the 2018 Commonwealth Games should be made public.

More than 60 people were deported from Australia for posing as journalists to enter the country during the games in April 2018.

The scandal led to the suspension of the then Director General of the National Sports Authority, Robert Sarfo-Mensah, and Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Pius Enam Hadzide.

The National Investigation Bureau launched an investigation into the alleged fraud and President Akufo-Addo later cleared Mr Hadzide based on the report but Mr Sarfo-Mensah remained suspended.

However, the report was never made public and details of how the fraud was orchestrated remain secretive.

Making his appearance before the vetting committee of Parliament, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yabaga-Kubori said he will pursue the publication of the report once he comes into office.
