Residents of Anlo Afiadenyigba in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region have called for mass transfer of police officers stationed in the community.

This follows an attack on Member of Parliament elect for the Keta Constituency, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey.

Mr. Gakpey and some members of his family were attacked by unknown gunmen in the early hours of last Friday.

The Member of Parliament elect for the Keta Constituency, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey was attacked by gunmen at his residence at Anlo Afiadenyigba in Keta Municipality and made away with some cash. He is reported to have escaped through a backdoor at his residence after several distress calls to the police stationed in the community were unanswered.

He has since received treatment at the hospital and been discharged.

Residents in the area have since protested against the police officers currently stationed in the community. They bemoaned that the officers do not have the capacity to respond to their security needs, stressing that on countless occasions, citizens have run to them for help to no avail.

A youth leader of Anlo Afiadenyigba, Bubu Klinogo expressed disappointment in the police stationed in the community for their inability to act promptly to apprehend the culprits upon several calls by the MP-elect for help.

He said the residents have lost confidence in the officers deployed to ensure security in the area hence their request for redeployment.

The Regent of Anlo Afiadenyigba, Torgbui Kadzahlo said the chiefs have resolved to rehabilitate the community’s post office which is not in use to be used as a new police station. He said that will replace the current police station which is situated at an obscure location in the community.
