The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has addressed the 22nd Biennial General Council Meeting of the Guyana Assemblies of God in Georgetown, Guyana.

Rev. Wengam, who also serves as a Executive member of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, spoke on the theme: “The Awesome Deeds of Prayer.”

He emphasized that persistent and intentional prayer is key to experiencing spiritual revival, stating: “Intense, consistent, deliberate and prolonged praying births unequaled revival. More prayer provokes the release of fresh revival.”

Rev. Wengam reminded participants that prayer played a central role in the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles, United States, which contributed to the growth of the Pentecostal movement and the establishment of the Assemblies of God in 1914.

Drawing lessons from Acts 1:14, he noted that the 120 disciples gathered in the Upper Room and devoted themselves to prayer for ten days before the Holy Spirit descended upon them.

He explained that the Holy Spirit did not come on the first or second day because, according to him, “it takes much prayer for great revival to take place,” as witnessed on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2.

Following his sermon, Rev. Wengam led the congregation in an intense prayer session, which resulted in what was described as a powerful manifestation of the Holy Spirit and a renewed atmosphere of revival.

The General Superintendent of Guyana Assemblies of God, Bishop John Smith, testified that the gathering experienced an unusual visitation of the Holy Spirit
