Road contractors in Ghana picket at the Ministry of Roads and Highways in Accra.

Contractors last Wednesday besieged the Roads and Highways Ministry, demanding the payment for completed road and drainage works.

They alleged that, government has racked up debts since 2016.

Mr. Amoka Atta said government is worried about the situation and expressed the commitment to get the issue resolved.

To this end he explained that a special committee has been set up with the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia as Chairman to oversee the resolution of the issue.

Sources within the ministry indicate that it is expected that by the end of the month, the issue will be resolved with recommendations made to government.

The contractors led by the Chairman of the Chamber of Construction Industry, Emmanuel Martey, presented a paper to the ministry for consideration.

This was discussed extensively with the assurance that the problem will be solved by the end of the month.

Present at the meeting were Executives of the Chamber of Road Construction Industry, Progressive Road Contractors Association, Association of Road Contractors, Chairman of the Ghana Road Fund Board, and Heads of Agencies at the ministry.
