Roads Minister inspects projects in Greater Accra, Eastern region

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Attah, has declared 2023 an action year for the road sector.

He said government is determined to deliver good roads to Ghanaians. Mr. Amoako Atta said this during a working visit to the Ashaley Botwe School junction and Dome-Kitase road projects in Accra and parts of the Eastern region.

He was highly impressed by works done so far by the contractors. He urged them to remain consistent in their delivery, saying the two projects are key to the development of the nation, especially as the Ashaley Botwe School junction project will have access roads to the new stadium to host the All Africa Games, to be held in Accra in August this year.

The Minister’s first port of call was at Ashaley Botwe School junction, where he inspected the five-point-eight kilometer road from school junction to the motorway. The project, which was awarded to a local company, Messiers Oswal Investments Limited, officially started in June last year. Originally, it was a dual carriageway with access roads to the new stadium. The project, which is 45 percent complete, is expected to be ready in June this year with service lanes added.

The Road’s Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta, said through road construction, cities are opened up, that is why the current administration has a great vision for the road sector.

“Government will continue to support all contractors in the country,” he said.

Director of Urban Roads, James Amoo Godfried, briefed the minister on the progress of work, highlighting some challenges they are facing.

“We will have to relocate animals at the University Farms, we are also working with Ghana Water and ECG to relocate some lines,” he said.

The tour for the first time was without the usual long convoy of land cruisers and V8s, as the minister and his team of directors and experts all made the journey in a coaster bus. When asked what informed the decision to use a bus, the Minister said it is going to be the norm henceforth, we will cut down on fuel consumption and cost among other things.

“Any journey we make within Accra will be done in a bus,” he said.

The Minister and his team later inspected progress of work on the Dome-Kitase road, where he was elated at the performance of First Sky Group, contractors in charge of the project.
