Robbery attack leaves one dead, 8 injured at Walewale

A robbery attack at Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region has left one dead and eight others injured.

The deceased, a 37-year-old mobile money vendor, Bilal Rabiu, was shot dead by some armed persons at about 6.30pm Monday at the Walewale-Nalerigu intersection.

Eight others, including a seven-year-old girl, are also in critical condition after sustaining injuries. Five of the victims and the deceased were said to be receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after being referred from the Walewale government Hospital until the deceased passed on.

Narrating the incident to our Northern Regional Correspondent, Joyce Kantam Kolamong, a brother of the deceased, Bilal Yussif, who is the assemblyman for Bokuduri electoral area, said at about 6:30pm yesterday, he, in the company of some friends heard multiple gunshots from a distance and shortly after that, a tricycle rider who is a brother, rode to where he was seated with the deceased inside the tricycle with multiple gunshot wounds.

They hurriedly rode to the Walewale government Hospital but was later referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital with the other injured persons for further treatment. He however died this morning at about 9am.

“It was inside the emergency room that I discovered that part of his intestines were out and there was a very deep cut in the arm. There was another two gun shots within the upper arm of the right hand popularity called “Rawlings Chain”,and behind that same place there was an exit of bullet again and there was another deep cut in the fingers

Mr. Bilal said, eight other persons were also brought to the hospital with Several injuries adding that five of the injured had severe abdominal injuries. According to him, his deceased brother had the most injuries because he was the target.

According to witnesses, two unknown gunmen on a motorbike arrived at the junction and attacked Bilal Rabiu, 32, who was shot and stabbed with a knife. As of the time of filling this report, our correspondent said the body of the deceased was being transported to Walewale for burial.
