Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr. Kacyira emphasizes togetherness for common good

The Rwandan High Commission in Ghana has launched ‘Umuganda’, a Rwandan Cultural Heritage, which literally means ‘’coming together for a common good’. The launch was climaxed with a clean-up and tree planting at the Ayawaso West Municipality, by staff of the Commission and other members of the Diplomatic Corps.

Speaking at the launch, the Rwanda High Commissioner, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, said Umuganda will help Ghanaians to understand the true meaning of working together at the community level, for a common purpose.

Dr. Kacyira said embarking on community service such as clean-up exercises and tree planting, is the surest way of making the environment good.

Staff of the Commission and some members of the Diplomatic Corps cleaned weeds, distilled drains and planted trees in the Ayawaso West Municipality to mark the launch of Umuganda which is uniting for common good.

Addressing journalists the Rwandan High Commissioner to Ghana Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira called on Ghanaians to replicate Umuganda in all communities in the country to ensure rapid development.

A representative from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Obeng Poku said Umuganda is not something new in the country and the initiative by the Rwandan High Commission is in line with Ghana’s vision of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

The MCE for Ayawaso West, Sandra Owusu Ahenkorah thanked the Rwandan High Commissioner for embarking on the clean-up campaign.

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana, Claudia Turbay also congratulated the Rwandan High Commissioner for bringing Umuganda to Ghana.
