Residents of Santoe, a suburb of Ashaiman popularly known as East Legon Hills, are calling upon the Government of Ghana to fix their roads.

For the past years, some concerned residents have urged the Ministers, MP’s and Assembly men to work on the roads to ensure smooth driving and better education as stated in the 2016, budget for development and sustainability among the people in the area.

Abu Mershack, a Medina-Ashaiman driver, said he uses the road often because the distance from school junction to Ashaiman is a short. “The roads need to be done to ensure effective business in the Troski sector.”

To the drivers they prefer that road to the main road due to the distance. “it is very short when you use the school junction-Nanakrom road” he stated.

Amanda, a mother of three, said, when the rain falls heavily, her children are not able to go to school with no vehicle on the road.

To her, the state of the road after heavy downpours wouldn’t be conducive for the drivers. It affects the education of her children.

“Sometimes, my husband has to carry them on his back to school when the road is flooded. After a heavy downpour, the shape of the road is very bad,” she stated.

Assistant Founder of the Church of Heaven Nti, Prophetess Doris Anane, stated that the Nation Ghana is built on the firm foundation of Christianity and other religious beliefs.

“The bad nature of the road from Santoe-Nanakrom to School Junction affects our religious activities in the area. Because of poor roads church activities are not able to come on due to flooding after rainfall…“Our road is very bad. The condition of the road prevents vehicles from coming to the area” she said.

According to the Prophetess, they are citizens of the nation and delegates who vote during election, therefore developmental initiatives such as contracting of good roads should take place in the area.

She further stated that during political seasons the Members of Parliament, (MPs’) and other political leaders promise to construct the roads. But after gaining power the roads will be left untouched.

Madam Doris is pleading with the Ministers and Assemblymen to come down and work on the roads.

According to her, the roads will ensure development. It will create a path for stakeholders to invest in the growth of the area.

She made it known that recently Melcom established a shop at Nanakrom which signifies an initial start for development.

To her, if the roads are constructed, more evolving initiatives for development will take place in the area.

Some drivers at the area complained about the damages the road cause to their vehicles.

The Assembly man of the East Legon Hills,  Afortey Mensah, disclosed that the drainage system to precede the construction of the road is done.

According to Mr. Afortey the road contract was given to some contractors during the Mahama led Administration but the construction halted after the change in Government in 2016.

He stated that, the engineer who was in charge of the construction was called upon several times. The assemblyman said he did a follow up on why the edifice of the road had ceased.

Mr. Afortey said upon the follow up the agency in charge of the road stopped due to lack of capital. The engineer said there was no money to continue the project.

The road issue has been mentioned in the 2016 national budget under the Ministry of Finance.

The DCE of the community stated that the roads will be put in good shape in no time.

The Assembly said, some institutions have advertised the road project in the Santoe (East Legon Hills) with other media institutions but to no avail.

“The matter was addressed to the DCE almost 8 months now but no result” he said.

East Legon, (Santoe) is a humble community which has different kinds of people in the elite and vulnerable homes.

Within the community, live ministers, members of parliament and noble businessmen in Ghana.

Mr. Afortey Mensah is urging every individual within the territory to contribute in spreading the information to ensure the construction of the road.
