Security Analyst, Adib Saani has called on politicians to refrain from interfering in the military’s operations.

Speaking on GTV Breakfast on October 11, 2024, Saani emphasized the need for the Ghana Armed Forces to work independently in the ongoing campaign against galamsey, the illegal mining practice that has caused significant environmental damage across the country.

“The military has to work closely with community services and internal intelligence agencies like the National Intelligence Bureau to map out affected areas and develop a comprehensive strategy”.

He stressed that a coordinated approach is essential for meaningful results in halting galamsey operations and restoring Ghana’s degraded ecosystems.

The military’s recent deployment to mining sites is part of a broader national effort to dismantle illegal mining activities, arrest offenders, and protect critical water bodies. Adib Saani, a security analyst, is urging politicians to avoid influencing the military’s work. He highlighted the need for commitment from all sectors to ensure that the military’s operations remain neutral and professional.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated the government’s dedication to fighting illegal mining and protecting Ghana’s natural resources. The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has also backed the military’s renewed efforts, assuring Ghanaians that sustained measures are being implemented to secure long-term results.

As the fight against galamsey continues, Saani emphasized that political non-interference is critical to the success of the mission, urging politicians to “keep their hands off” and allow the security service delegated to lead the charge in protecting the environment.
