Security personnel has been deployed in Bawku in the Upper East Region ahead of today’s Samanpiid festival celebrated by Kusasis.

This is to avert a possible clash with the Mamprusis.

The Bawku Divisional Police Commander ACP Yao Tettegah told GBC that the police will leave nothing to chance.

He added that his outfit has so far managed to curb the violence often associated with the festival.

ACP Tettegah added that they are undertaking joint police-military patrols, random stops and search among other measures to ensure no criminal disturbs the celebrations.

All hotels are fully occupied with some rooms booked as far back as two months ago with others charging more than twice their rates.

Some Landlords have also converted their homes into guesthouses to accommodate patrons of the festival.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama are expected to grace the occasion.

The main festivals of the two tribes have over the past years resulted in violent clashes with each accusing the other of attempting to disrupt the other’s activities.
