Security has been beefed up at the Ghana Bauxite Company at Awaso in the Western North Region.

This follows a shutdown of the company after a violent demonstration by aggrieved workers resulted in the burning of the company’s properties including the Human Resource Manager’s house.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Bibiani Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent John Osei Bonsu said security personnel from the Military, Ghana Immigration Service, Forest Commission and the Ghana National Fire Service have been deployed to Awaso and the Ghana Bauxite Company to prevent reprisal attacks.

He said investigations are underway but no one has been arrested so far.

Chief Supt. Osei Bonsu urged the aggrieved workers and the public to remain calm as discussions are ongoing to address their concerns.
