The Ministry of National Security has noted with concern the growing sense of insecurity in the country and threat of terrorism within the sub-region. Amidst the heightened tension and the drive of terrorist groups towards coastal states in West Africa, the Ministry is urging the public, particularly worshipers to be security conscious. This was contained in a statement signed by the National Security Coordinator, Major General Francis Adu-Amanfoh.

According to the statement, terrorist and extremist groups have renewed their mode of operation, targeting public gatherings including places of worship. The development it noted, calls for strong precautionary measures by all stakeholders. It further cited instances of militant attacks at the Westgate mall in Nairobi, Kenya, which killed about sixty people including revered Ghanaian Poet and Author, Prof Kofi Awoonor. To this end, the Ministry says it is partnering key State Security and Intelligence Agencies to institute measures as a way of countering any possible attack in the country.

Whilst assuring the public of adequate security in safeguarding the country’s peace and security, the Ministry is advising areas noted for mass gathering to enhance their security measures by way of CCTV installation at designated places and the deployment of Private Security Personnel.
