A release warrant has been signed for former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sedina Christine Tamakloe Attionu after the Attorney-General withdrew its application seeking to keep her in custody.
The Attorney-General on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, withdrew a motion filed at the Court of Appeal to suspend the execution of the court’s decision acquitting and discharging Ms Tamakloe Attionu.
Following the withdrawal, the court proceeded to sign the release warrant.
In July 2026, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal overturned Ms Tamakloe Attionu’s conviction and 10-year prison sentence on 78 corruption-related charges.
The panel, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Ankamah, with Justices Samuel Obeng-Diawuo and Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe concurring, found that the trial judge had repeatedly placed the burden of proving her innocence on her, contrary to the constitutional presumption of innocence.
The court also concluded that the prosecution had failed to establish several of the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
Following the ruling, the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice filed a notice of appeal at the Supreme Court, indicating its intention to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision.
The Attorney-General subsequently filed an application for a stay of execution, asking the Court of Appeal to suspend the effect of its acquittal and discharge pending the determination of the case by the Supreme Court.
However, Principal State Attorney Hilda Craig withdrew the application on Wednesday.
The prosecution has instead filed the application before the Supreme Court.
The Court of Appeal subsequently struck out the motion following its withdrawal.
