Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu is a free woman today. The former head of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre walked out of custody following a significant shift in her protracted legal battle. This development arrives roughly two weeks after an appellate tribunal cleared her of all previous criminal charges.

Legal representatives for Mrs. Tamakloe-Attionu successfully challenged the initial verdict handed down by the trial court. The appellate ruling completely dismantled the basis of her prior sentencing, setting the stage for her immediate physical liberation from state custody.

The physical release was delayed due to efforts by state prosecutors to maintain detention. The Attorney-General initially filed legal motions to halt the implementation of the appellate ruling. An Accra High Court subsequently tried and convicted her in April 2024, issuing a ten-year prison sentence while she was outside the country.
