A 20-footer container load of Rosewood intercepted three days ago by the Police and other Security Agencies at an illegal Rosewood Factory near Damongo in the Savannah Region, has disappeared.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, an Anti Rosewood Trade Campaigner, Jeremiah Seidu said while the contractor of the container was being interrogated at the factory, he alleged that he got the permit from the Forestry Commission to harvest, process and transport the Rosewood.

Mr. Seidu was surprised at this development because he claimed that the Regional Minister who gave instructions for the container to be impounded was not aware of the Forestry Commission’s issuance of permit later.

Mr. Seidu is therefore calling on government to investigate the involvement of the Forestry Commission in the trade and export of Rosewood in the Savannah Region inspite of the ban.
