Six (6) National Policy Summit opens in Cape Coast.

The sixth  (6th) National Policy Summit has opened in Cape Coast, under the theme:  “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with emphasis on Fisheries and Sanitation, which is in line with SDG fourteen (14) and six (6).

The two-day event is expected to bring together policy makers, industry players, academics and civil society organisations to interact and dialogue on the theme of the summit: “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals with emphasis on Fisheries and Sanitation”.

Speaking at the summit, The Omanhene of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketsia described the theme for the summit as appropriate, saying water scarcity, poor water quality and inadequate sanitation negatively impact food security, livelihood choices, and educational opportunities.

He called for closer collaboration between the agencies in tackling challenges affecting the fisheries and sanitation sectors.

The National Policy Summit is a platform Government uses to explain its policies, plans and activities to the people, and collects feedback that affects subsequent policy formulation.

A Deputy Minister of Information, Nana Dokua Asiamah-Adjei said outcomes of the summit will help in the formulation of policies on sanitation and fisheries.

SDG 14 recommends the conservation and use of the oceans and marine resources in a manner that ensures sustainability of life, while SDG six encourages the sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
