General Secretary of the Small Scale Miners Association Godwin Armah has asked the government to streamline its policies on mining in the North East Region and other areas in the North where gold and other minerals have been discovered.

In an interview with GBC News, Mr. Armah called on the government to deal with the cumbersome nature of land acquisition, and embark on an extensive sensitization of mineral rights in the areas where the commodities have been found. This, according to Mr. Armah, would help to prevent illegal miners from moving to the area.

“The discovery is good for the country and if more exploration is done we will get different minerals also. The issue of land acquisition should be simplified so that those around the area who want to engage in small-scale mining will be able to acquire the license because if the license acquisition is difficult then people will not bother and do the mining illegally,” according to Godwin Armah.
