Social workers and caregivers in the Greater Accra Region have been trained to take good care of children left in their care and how to handle orphanages in the country. It was organised by Charlie’s Angel’s Foundation, a social work Group based in the US.

About 40 Social workers and Caregivers attended the three day workshop which was aimed at equipping the participants with the requisite knowledge in taking good care of children in their care. It was also to educate them to be professional in the performance of their duties.

According to the leader of the Charlie’s Angel’s Foundation based in the US, Mrs Mia Cherrise Henson, the group visited the country last year and donated some items to the Osu children’s Home.

During an interaction with management of the Home, the group realised that the workers needed more training in their field of work hence the workshop.

She said, in social work, one has to treat each child as an individual and encourage positive relationships. It is also important to be aware of their personal goals, values and beliefs.

Two of the participants Peter Oduro and Christiana Addo gave their impression about the workshop.

Some of the topics treated are how to handle children, meeting their basic needs, identifying their strengths, abilities and supporting them in times of stress.
