Special Development Initiative Minister tours Volta region

The Minister of Special Development Initiative, Mavis Hawa Koomson has began a five day working tour of the Volta Region to inspect ongoing projects under the Ministry’s Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

The projects which includes institutional water closet toilets, mechanised water systems and warehouses will be funded with the government’s one million dollar per constituency allocation.

The first day of the Minister’s tour saw her and managers of the Coastal Development Authority inspecting works at selected schools and health facilities as well as warehouses in the Ho Central and Ho West Constituencies.

Madam Koomson who was impressed with state of the ongoing projects was hopeful that when completed the facilities will improve upon the lives of people in the beneficiary institutions and communities. She urged the contractors of the various projects to ensure that the projects are completed on time.

Meanwhile, two contractors have had their contracts terminated by the Minister for failing to embark on their projects in accordance with the agreement.

Madam Hawa Koomson explained that they were unable to start their projects within schedule saying that the contracts will be awarded to contractors who have the capacity to deliver quality work on time.

The Minister and her entourage are expected to inspect projects in 11 more districts and municipalities in the Volta Region to end the working tour.
