A Galamsey operator in Techiman in the Bono East Region, Lambert Niakibe Kaba and colleagues are appealing to the government to consider them in the sustainable livelihood training programme to enable them to make a living.

They are specifically appealing for portions of agricultural colleges to be converted to poultry farms so they can have some jobs as Graduates of Animal Health Production from the Veterinary College at Pong -Tamale.

Government’s unwavering fight against illegal mining, otherwise known as Galamsey due to the negative socio – economic and security effects on the country, has compelled Lambert Niakibe Kaba, a galamsey operator and his colleagues to appeal for an environmentally – friendly job.

According to Lambert, he holds a Certificate in Animal Health Production from the Veterinary College at Pong –Tamale but due to unemployment after school, he found himself in the illegal mining business.

He hinted he had operated the illegal business in various communities including Asankragua, Banda Nkwanta, Nkenkase, Bawdie Nkakaa, Dominase Nkwanta and Amansie Kumasi since his Secondary education.

Most of his friends, he said lost their lives through galamsey.

However, he did not die so he was able to save some money to further his education at the Veterinary College of Animal production.

He says life indeed has become unbearable for him due to the directives to end Galamsey operations, citing some of the happenings at the illegal mining sites recently at Bawdie Nkakaa.

Through thick and thin, Lambert has been able to write two books, “No Condition is Permanent ” and Life is a battlefield”.

There is a third one in the offing, titled “Poverty is a Disease”.

However, due to financial constraints, the books have not seen the light of day.

According to Lambert, they are now determined to part ways with the galamsey business for other lucrative jobs.
