An Accra High Court has struck out the 68 charges against Dr Kwabena Duffuor and eight others and replaced them with 71 new charges.

This was after the Director of Public Prosecution, Yvonne Atakorah Obuobisah, prayed the court for the old charges filed in March to be dropped.

According to the DPP, the prosecution is amending some portions of the earlier charge sheet with a new one filed on June 17.

The court presided over by Justice Philip Bright Mensah, a Court of Appeal judge sitting with the additional responsibility as a High Court judge struck out the old charges as withdrawn.

The court in striking out the charges said, all the accused persons are discharged of the old charges but their plea will be taken for the new charges. However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the 71 new charges.

The state has amended the charge sheet in the case of Dr Duffuor and eight others by adding three new charges.

Earlier this year, the accused persons were slapped with 68 charges but that has been withdrawn and replaced with new charges adding up to 71.

They have been admitted to the same bail conditions as earlier granted by the court.

The new charges include falsification of UniBank account, conspiracy and defrauding. Defence lawyers prayed the court to give them ample time to peruse the documents filed by the state.

The court adjourned the matter to the 16th and 17th of next month for Case Management Conference.
