The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), has so far listed more than eight million structures making up seventy percent of the estimated 11 million in the country in the past six days.

The listing of structures, which forms the first phase of the 2021 Population and Housing Census, is expected to end on Wednesday.

The enumeration of Ghanaians and foreigners will officially begin on Monday, June 28, after the Census Night on Sunday, June 27, to count persons in transit and the homeless.

Government Statistician, Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim, announced this at a media briefing in Accra.

He said the service is confident to complete the remaining 30 percent structures by June 23.

Mr. Anim said the upcoming Population and Housing Census will be an inclusive exercise where every ethnic group in Ghana will be captured without discrimination, no matter the size of their numbers.

Prof. Anim identified some challenges encountered during the six days listing period including boundary disputes, security concerns, and a long period of power outages in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.

He said those who obstruct census officials from doing their work will be sanctioned in accordance with the Ghana Statistical Service Legislation.

He said offenders could receive a penalty of not less than 200 penalty units and/or one-year imprisonment.

Meanwhile, steps have been put in place to help Ghanaians easily identify the legitimate enumerators during the census.
