Coalition Against Sexual Harassment on Campuses (CASH ON CAMPUSES), an advocacy organisation against sexual harassment, has organised a day’s talk for selected students from Koforidua Senior High Technical School, Liberty Specialist Institute, and All Nations University.
The talk, which coincided with the launch of the CASH ON CAMPUSES website at the All Nations University (ANU), in Koforidua, was to educate, sensitise, and empower the students to be vocal on issues of sexual harassment.
A legal practitioner, Linda Terkie Lartey, speaking to the students on the topic, “the Law and Sexual Harassment,” explained that sexual harassment comes in many forms, which can be verbal or physical. Mrs. Lartey advised young men to be careful of the things they do or say when they are around ladies, which can amount to sexual harassment and be punishable by law.
A School Counsellor at Koforidua Senior High Technical, Rita Biam, noted that most sexual harassment issues are motivated by the watching of pornographic movies on phones. She advised students and lecturers who engage in such acts to desist from them, as they can destroy the futures of the perpetrators.
The Head of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at ANU, Dr. Anita Antwiwaa, hinted that sexual harassment happens in every aspect of life and can happen to anyone. She encouraged the students to be vocal when confronted with such issues.
In an interview with the founder of CASH ON CAMPUSES, who is a Biomedical Engineering student at ANU, Wendy Ngoin, revealed that the talk is to equip the students with the appropriate resources in order to be well-equipped when confronted with sexual harassment issues.
Miss Ngoin encouraged everyone to patronise the website to report their sexual harassment issues.
