Director of the Institute for Education Studies, Peter Anti, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) 2020 Manifesto which promises to re-package the Student Loan Scheme and introduce the ‘No Guarantor’ system is commendable.

He said the decision is timely since a lot of students are benefiting from the free  Senior High School (SHS) policy. He added that the decision will enable students have access, to tertiary education easily.

Speaking to Ibrahim Kwarteng, Mr. Anti explained that most of the beneficiaries are unable to pay their debts making it difficult for guarantors to assist students to get access to the loans.

He expressed fears that the default in the repayment will increase with the new scheme.

On the promise of free Wi-Fi on campuses, Mr. Anti said will help facilitate learning activities adding that the usage has to be regulated for the students to benefit.
