Sunyani mourns Queen Mother

The Sunyani Traditional Council (STC) in the Bono Region has held th One Week observance of the death of their queenmother, Nana Yaa Nyamaah Puduo.

The observation is part of activities by the Council to herald the burrial of the deceased which has been set for the 29 of February, 2020.

The laying in state, funeral and burial rites would be held between the 25 to the the 29th of February, 2020.

Clad in red and black, thousands of residents including high profile personalities such as Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Religious Leaders and MPs’ from far and near  converged on the forecourt of the Sunyani Omanhene’s palace to observe the one week funeral celebration of the demise of the Sunyani Manhemaa, Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo.

Born Helena Akosua Yeboaah on April 24, 1955 to the Boahenkor family, the late Nana Yaa Nyamaa Puduo was entooled as the Queen Mother of Sunyani Traditional Council at the age of 17 and served for 47 years before her death at the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital on August 1, 2019 after a short ailment.

Prior to the funeral,  a Week’s temporary ban had been placed on commercial activities with potential noise making.

In the morning most shops were closed with the streets dominated by various Chiefs moving to the Sunyanihene’s Palace in their beautiful traditional funeral wear amidst drumming and dancing.

To most people, it was historic to observe such an atmosphere after nearly five decades.

The event provided a rich display of the culture of the people of Sunyani and other ethnic groups in attendance.

In an interview a member of the Royal Family, Nana Akomea Sakyi, described the late Nana Yaa Nyamaa as brave, kindhearted and patriotic.

A member of the planning committee, Kofi Manu said, there will be a ban on all funerals in the municipality effective January 1, 2020 untill the burrial of deceased Omanhemaa on the 29th of February 2020.
