The Leadership of the Volta Regional Council of Labour under the auspices of Organised Labour has appealed to heads of departments and institutions to support workers with necessary logistics for this year’s May Day celebrations.

The Council said timely provision of resources was needed to ensure active participation of workers in the May 01 Workers Day festivities.

It attributed poor patronage of past celebrations to inadequate logistics and lack of support from heads of departments and institutions and prayed for a better 2019 event.

The Workers Day is a day Ghanaian worker join other workers all over the world to celebrate their achievements.

In a News release made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and signed by Madam Edith Abla Amenuvor-Afewu, Acting Regional Secretary, Trades Union Congress (TUC), the Council said the 2019 May Day celebrations on the theme “Sustainable Pensions for all: The Role of Social Partners” would be marked with a brass band possession through some principal streets of the Ho Township to the Jubilee Park.

The release said a parade would be staged by workers unions in the Region and crowned with the presentation of awards to workers who excelled in their place of work during the year by Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister.

It said the celebrations would be graced by the Municipal and District Chief Executives, Heads of Departments and Institutions, Chiefs and Queen mothers, and Regional Commanders of the various security services.

The release said the month of April was dedicated to discussions on the theme by some Council executives on radio stations in Ho.
