Supreme Court adjourns contempt application against Bernard Mornah again

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court of Ghana.

The Supreme Court Presided over by the Chief Justice, Kwesi Anin-Yeboah has adjourned the contempt application against the Chairman of the People’s National Convention, PNC, Bernard Mornah sine die.

This is the third consecutive time the Apex court has to adjourn the case since it was first called on July 15.

The matter was called again on July 21 but was adjourned to the 27th, and was subsequently again adjourned indefinitely Monday.

The Chief State Attorney, Bright Kuwornu, was ready to move the application without knowing whether the contemnor, Mr. Mornah, has been served with the application.

He told the court that, he has not seen any proof of service nor received any affidavit in opposition to the contempt application.

The panel, however, wondered why the Chief State Attorney wanted to move the application when he has not seen any proof of service on the respondent.

The panel however adjourned the case indefinitely.

Mr. Monah has been cited for contempt after he allegedly encouraged Ghanaians to disregard a Supreme Court order for the Electoral Commission to compile a new Voters’ Register pursuant to C.I 126 which excluded the old Voters’ ID cards as a basis for identification.

The contempt application at the apex court by the Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, alleges that the PNC Chairman called on Ghanaians to go out to register with their old Voters’ Cards if it is the only form of identification they have and demand their right to be registered.
