The Judicial Service has expressed profound gratitude to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for its extensive and free coverage of activities marking the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s 150th Anniverssary Committee paid a courtesy call on GBC management on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 to formally acknowledge the Corporation’s support, which saw the live broadcast and streaming of key events under the theme:” “Celebrating the Present and Defining the Future.”
In a brief remark, the Chairperson of the Supreme Court at 150 Anniversary Planning Committee, Justice Richard Adjei, said the visit was to thank GBC for opening its doors to the Judiciary at a short notice.
He said GBC, under its leadership, graciously offered its platform for the dissemination of information and provided live coverage, broadcast and streaming of programmes at no cost to the Judiciary.
“Throughout the programme, GBC was there providing live coverage, broadcasting, live streaming and everything else that was required. The key thing is that all this was done at no cost to the Judiciary of Ghana,” Justice Adjei noted.
He said the anniversary, was aimed at opening up the work of the Judiciary to the public, enhancing public understanding of the role of the Supreme Court, and receiving feedback. He added that initiatives such as the moot court competition and the Bar-Bench engagement with market women would be sustained.
The Director-General of GBC, Prof. Amin Alhassan, said serving the three arms of government is what gives GBC legitimacy as a public broadcaster.
He described the Judiciary as the least demanding but most appreciated arm of government, compared to Parliament and the Executive.
“Of the three arms of government, you are the least demanding and, incidentally, the most appreciated,” Prof. Alhassan said, assuring that GBC will continue to prioritize service to state institutions over profit.
Also present was the President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Efua Ghartey, who commended GBC for its dedication, noting that the media’s role in the celebration could not be ignored.
“You cannot have a celebration without the media. It is a partnership that nobody can ignore,” she stated.
