Surveyors urge gov’t to hasten passage of ‘Surveyors Council Bill’

The Ghana Institution of Surveyors has asked Government to fast track the passage of the Survey Council Bill into law to help regulate activities of the profession.

Speaking at the launch of the 16th Surveyors week and 52nd Annual General Meeting in Accra, President of the Institution, Dr John Amaglo said there are non-professional surveyors who hide behind the institution to practice, resulting in many land disputes in the country. Dr. Amaglo said the Bill when passed will help resolve land management issues and challenges affecting land administration systems in the country.

The week long celebration by the Ghana Institution of Surveyors is the sixteenth in the series, aimed at highlighting the relevance of the practice of surveying to nation building.

It also affords the Institution the opportunity to share with the public, achievements chalked up within the year under review.

Speaking at the launch, President of the Institution, Dr John Amaglo said despite professional surveyors’ contribution to the country’s development, there are few challenges hampering their operations.

He bemoaned the activities of quack surveyors, whose conduct is affecting the institution and land administration in Ghana. Dr Amaglo called on the Legislature to pass the Survey Council Bill to regulate surveying business in the country.

Dr. Amaglo gave highlights of the weeklong celebration which is under the theme “Building a resilient surveying practice for contemporary times.”

The Institution said due to the rising cases of COVID-19, all activities lined up for the celebration will be done virtually to help avoid any spread.
