Three men suspected to be armed robbers have attacked the Mamba Gas re-filling station at ‘Kyirapatre’ near Kumasi in the Ashanti region, injuring one of the workers in the process.
One of the Pump Attendants at the station, Kwaku Anane, was hit in the head with an object during a struggle with one of the attackers.
Anane, who was later rushed to the Ashanti Regional Hospital for emergency care, was treated and discharged.

Narrating the incident to GBC’s Garden City Radio, Kwaku Anane said the Gas Station operates a 24-hour service and he was on duty Monday when the three men alighted from a private vehicle at about 11 pm. They were initially mistaken to be customers coming to re-fill their empty vehicle gas cylinder.

According to him, as soon as they entered the premises, they ordered him to surrender the day’s sales to them at gun point. Mr.Anane said he seized and disarmed one of them in a struggle during which they both fell on the ground when one other suspect hit his head with an object causing him to bleed profusely.

According to him, the one captured, managed to escape alongside the others with the day’s sales. The Station Manager, Kwasi Ndil, said the amount lost to the robbery is yet to be determined and that management would review the present security arrangement.

Meanwhile, the Manager has made a formal complaint against one Opoku, the Policeman detailed to provide security at the station, to his superiors at the Patase Police Station for interrogation and sanctions, following his alleged failure to respond to the robbery attack even though it occurred in his presence.

The Gas Station management is suspecting him to be connected with the incident based on his demeanour immediately before and after the attack.

The Manager expressed disappointment in the Police for the turn of events, describing the situation as a betrayal of trust.
