Takoradi Cemetery can no longer offer “rooms” for the dead to lie in peace as the facility is full and had been overly stretched.

City authorities are therefore asking bereaved families to rely on alternatives within the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis, until work on the new site is completed and opened to the public for burials.

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kobina Kurentsir Sam, said the Assembly had acquired a 38.12 acre parcel of land at Eshiem for the new cemetery project.

In the meantime, the Ketan Road Estate cemetery had been graded and widened to support burials from Takoradi and its environs.

He mentioned that the new cemetery, would have funeral homes attached to enable families have access to one-off services, “we are ready to work with any private investor or investors to set up funeral homes so that funeral could be organized right at the cemetery”.
