Tamale readies for Independence Day Celebration

Rehearsals towards the Independence Day celebration in Tamale has begun in earnest. Hundreds of security personnel  from the Armed Forces, Police, Prisons Service and the Fire Service, have began drills at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in preparation for the day.

Residents of the Tamale Metropolis are excited about the Independence celebration scheduled for the Northern Regional capital.

A member of the planning committee told GBC’s Radio Ghana that the final rehearsal will take place on Monday (4th March).

Some residents of the Metropolis, who turned up to watch the rehearsals, shared their thoughts with Radio Ghana.

Meanwhile, the Zongo Chief of Nyankpala and a Chief Priest of the Afrikania Mission has appealed to government and the planning committee to include the pouring of libation during national events such as the Independence Day celebration.

According to him, the ancestors and gods of the land played a key role in the independence struggle and should be celebrated.

Hotels and guest houses in the Metropolis are cashing in on the event. A visit to some hotels and guest houses within two kilometres of the stadium revealed that most rooms have been booked from 4th to 7th March.
