The TDC Company Limited has begun a revenue mobilisation exercise aimed at recovering ground rent arrears owed by businesses, institutions, and individuals operating within its operational enclave.
The Managing Director of TDC Ghana, Courage Kafui Nunekpeku, said some major companies owe the TDC huge sums of moneywiththe total amount which could reach one billion cedis if all outstanding debts are accounted for.
Mr. Nunekpeku noted that several attempts had been made to engage and persuade the defaulting entities to settle their arrears, but those efforts had not yielded the desired results.
“If this current exercise fails to achieve its purpose, the Corporation may be compelled to take legal action to recover the debts. That, however, remains a path we want to avoid,” he said.
He explained that the funds to be recovered are critical for the Company’s development projects as the year draws to a close, adding that the mobilisation exercise will continue until the end of the year.
To improve accessibility and convenience for clients, the Managing Director mentioned that TDC offices will now operate seven days a week, including weekends, to receive payments. He added that the Company will also introduce special Sunday operations to make it easier for churches and other religious institutions to settle their financial obligations.
During a visit to some defaulting facilities, while a few businesses made partial payments, others pleaded for more time to honour their commitments at the Company’s offices.
Mr. Nunekpeku stressed that no entity would be exempted from the revenue mobilisation drive.
“We urge all debtors to take immediate steps to settle their financial obligations to the State,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the TDC’s commitment to sustaining the mobilisation exercise until all outstanding revenues are recovered to support infrastructural development and ensure the continued growth of the TDC operational areas.
