The Ministry of Health has constituted a 7-member committee to investigate the unrest at the Nursing Training College, Techiman-Krobo in the Bono East Region.
The move follows days of tension on campus which culminated in a peaceful student demonstration and the eventual temporary closure of the school by the Ministry on July 24, 2026.
The students had cited what they described as unfair treatment by the administration, alongside concerns over governance, welfare and academic management.
The issues drew the attention of the Bono East Regional Minister, chiefs of Techiman and other stakeholders who held a series of engagements to resolve the matter, but the efforts failed to produce a lasting solution. The closure was announced to ensure safety and to allow for proper investigations into the concerns raised.
The committee will be chaired by Prof. Vida Nyagre Yekong, Deputy Registrar of the Health Facilities Regulatory Authority, Nurse and former Dean of the School of Nursing at UDS. Other members are Mr. Ahmed Bennett Mumuni, Human Resource Manager of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council; Nana Asa Akon Panin, Techiman-Krobohene; Mrs. Hepthzebah Gyimah, Deputy Director of Operations and Representative of the Nursing and Midwifery Council; Mrs. Isha Sena Iddrisu, Secretary to the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions; Nashiru-Deen Akparibo, President of the Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association; and Dr. Inua Yussuf Issahaku Esq., Legal Director of the Ministry of Health.
The committee’s mandate is to establish the facts surrounding the issues that led to the unrest, review and determine whether existing policies, code of conduct and administrative procedures have been complied with, and make recommendations to the Minister for Health for appropriate action. It is expected to engage students, staff, management, parents and traditional authorities as part of its work to ensure a thorough and transparent process.
The Ministry has directed the committee to submit a comprehensive report on or before 11th August, 2026. Stakeholders, including the Chiefs and People of Techiman-Krobo, say they expect the findings to guide steps toward reopening the college and restoring normal academic activities, while addressing the governance and welfare concerns that triggered the unrest.
