The number of teenage pregnancies in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region saw a satisfactory decline last year compared to 2019.

The Municipal Public Health Nurse, Madam Leticia Asare who disclosed this called for partnership among all the various interest groups within the society towards addressing the problem of high teenage pregnancy in the Municipality.

Speaking in an interview with GBC’s Nicholas Osei-Wusu at Ejisu, Madam Asare attributed the situation to the largely rural nature of a chunk of the communities and the lack of social amenities like schools.

Touching on matters affecting adolescent health in the Municipality, Madam Asare disclosed that out of the 378 abortions recorded in 2020, 78 were induced or self-inflicted, with the people concerned allegedly applying various medications to terminate pregnancies without any medical expert’s advice.
