The Chairman of the Workers’ Union of AFCONS, the construction firm working on the Tema-Mpakadan Railway Project, Godwin Kwame Sodzie, says workers are unhappy with management’s failure to come to agreement over their salaries and other issues.

Mr. Sodzie said this when he led about 200 workers to demonstrate at Shai Hills over what they term ‘unfair treatment’ being meted out to them by some third-party companies working on behalf of AFCONS.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana in Tema, Mr. Sodzie said the workers want the Company to do away with the third parties and deal directly with them.

The aggrieved workers chanted war songs, with red arm bands and placards with inscriptions such as ‘third parties must go’ and ‘we are tired of third-party interferences’.

They accused the third-party companies of short changing them by paying 22 days salary, instead of 27 working days.

The workers shared their frustration with GBC’s Radio Ghana and emphasized that they will continue to lay down their tools.
