The Psychiatric Departments at the Tema General Hospital and Manhean Clinic recorded a significant increase in the number of new registrants to the facility last year.

Coordinator for the Tema Metro Community Psychiatry, Pious Tay, explained that the increase in new registrants is an indication that the public appreciates the benefit of Psychiatric treatment.

He attributed the success story to the intense public education by the Unit on mental issues in the last three years. Meanwhile, data from the Tema Metro Community Psychiatry shows that 1,992 revisits and reviews were seen at the respective facilities.

Eleven pregnancy-related mental disorders were recorded in the Metropolis while 20 anxiety disorders, 81 non-specified mental disorders, and nine mental retardations, developmental and other childhood mental disorders were cared for.
