The REACH project builds partnerships with Communities in Upper West Region

The Upper West Regional Coordinating Director, Peter Maala has encouraged collaborators to play their role effectively to sustain the gains being made by the Resilience Against Climate Change(REACH) Project in its quest to help Communities build resilience against the impacts of climate change.

Mr. Maala made the call during a presentation of Agriculture and Information Technology equipment by the REACH Project to its Partners in Wa in the Upper West Region.

The equipment valued at a little over (GHS 3,000,000.00) included two tractors, laptop and personal computers, mobile tablets, cameras, projectors, global positioning systems (GPS) as well as video conferencing devices.

Mr. Maala who was excited pledged the Regional Coordinating Council’s support to he termed “a worthy cause” and thanked the European Union and GIG (Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit) for their support towards building resilience against climate change in Upper West and the country at large. He expressed the hope that the equipment will help build the capacities of Municipal and District Planning Coordinating Units (MDPCUs) in developing climate smart Medium Term Development Plans (MTDPs).

The Head of Cooperation European Union Delegation to Ghana, Massimo Mina and the Team Lead,Competitive Cashew Initiative (ComCashew), Madam Rita Weidinger jointly presented the packages to the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Mina expressed excitement.
”I am excited to be meeting our partners who are working to ensure that the European Union Ghana Agriculture Programme (EU-GAP) succeeds. I would like to thank the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development,Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ministry of Finance for their constant cooperation in our quest to increase agricultural incomes and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in rural communities”.

The two tractors were handed over to the Babile Agriculture Research Station and the Damongo Agriculture College.

The Manager of the Babile Agriculture Station, Dangana Mahama and the Principal of the Damongo Agriculture College, Mohammed Nuhu Adam took delivery of the tractors for their organisations.

Madam Safia Abdulai of the Nadowli District Assembly on behalf of the recipients of the packages thanked the benefactors for the support and assured them the items will be utilised appropriately to improve service delivery.
