The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects over their alleged involvement in a human trafficking syndicate that reportedly lured young women from Nigeria to Ghana and forced them into prostitution in the Talensi District.
The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy, were arrested during a police operation at Gbane, a mining community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that Peace Agbede allegedly met one of the victims in Nigeria and promised to help her pursue a career in Ghana’s film industry, citing her beauty as an advantage.
The victim reportedly accepted the offer and travelled with the suspect to Ghana. However, upon arrival, the promise was allegedly abandoned, and she was instead taken to the Gbane-Tongo mining area, where she was allegedly forced into prostitution.
Police said the victim was required to pay GH¢400 a day to her alleged trafficker.
Investigators further disclosed that after the victim gave birth on June 26, 2026, Agbede and her alleged accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, reportedly attempted to persuade her to sell the newborn baby to a prospective buyer for GH¢20,000.
During a search of Agbede’s residence, police recovered six record books containing sales records bearing the names Esther, Mary, Bright, and Silver, as well as 265 unused condoms, which investigators believe may be relevant to the case.
The operation also led to the rescue of four female victims, aged between 18 and 20, who are believed to have been trafficked and sexually exploited.
The three suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
The Upper East Regional Police Command said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals suspected to be connected to the alleged trafficking network.
