Today is World Post Day.

Lets be realistic, those days of receiving letters with smiles and name written on it or going to the post office to check your box whether you have a letter has completed died out of the system.
Letter writing in those days was a fun and not only did it bring us closely to family and friends who were far from us, they helped improve our English and hand writing.
Every year on October 9, World Post Day is celebrated around the world – the day on which the Universal Postal Union (UPU) was established in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The day was declared as the World Post Day by the UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan in 1969.
The union’s aim was to create and enable a system that allows a free flow of international mail around the world.
The purpose of World Post Day is to bring awareness to the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development.

What is the World Post Day 2018 theme?

Every year, a new theme is chosen to mark the holiday.
The theme for World Post Day 2018 is: ‘Imagine you are a letter travelling through time. What message do you wish to convey to your readers?’

World Post Day activities

To celebrate World Post Day, a number of fun activities can be held for people of all ages throughout the world.
Just a few ideas include starting a stamp collection, writing letters to a pen pal, writing a letter to your future self detailing what life is like at your current age, attending workshops and lectures on postal history and much more.
