The President of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede has condemned recent publications that were derived out of a fake statement alleged to have originated from the House on its stance about the Agyapa Royalties agreement.

He described the publications as fake, mischievous and sought to dent his image and the reputation of the National House of Chiefs.

Togbe Afede said this at a ceremony at Ho to reconstitute the Volta Region House of Chiefs.

The publications were carried by several media houses in the country on Tuesday.

Togbe Afede who is also the Agbogbomefia of Asogli noted that neither him nor the National House of Chiefs has issued any official statement with regards to the controversy surrounding the Agyapa Royalties agreement and urged the public to disregard the fake publications.

He bemoaned the attempt to use his name to grant legitimacy to a transaction that has been widely condemned for its secrecy and for the fact that the company involved, Agyapa was incorporated in a tax haven.

“I do not see why desperation would lead anybody associated with that transaction to want to use the name of the innocent Togbe Afede XIV.” He noted that “I have never commented on this transaction.”

Togbe Afede stressed on the attempt to use my name and the national house of chiefs to grant legitimacy to this transaction.

The reconstitution of the Volta Region House of Chiefs saw 100 Paramount Chiefs from the Volta Region being sworn in as members.

Members whose paramountcy fall in the Oti Region are scheduled to be sworn in as members of the Oti Region House of Chiefs.

President Akufo Addo is expected to inaugurate the Oti Region House of Chiefs as well as cut the sod for the construction of the House’s complex.
