Panelists on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme FOCUS say it is too early to establish a Support Fund to Reconstruct Appiatse, a Community near Bogoso which was razed down by an explosion.

According to them, events leading to the explosion and its aftermath still beg for answers.

They argued that the Company being implicated for negligence in the accident must be made to take responsibility for resettling members of the Community.

Government on January 25, 2022 launched the ‘Appiatse Support Fund’ to reconstruct the Community.

Making his submission, Lawyer and Mining Engineer Theophilus Dzimega noted that it is mandatory for Companies in the explosive sector to put in place funds to take care of such accidents and not rely on the benevolence of Ghanaians.

”Almost a week after the accident, the company MAXAM should be able to provide some answers”.

For his part the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini noted that the establishment of the fund is a natural response of humans to the afflicted.

He however observed that Ghanaians and the State must not be overburdened.

”People found culpable after investigations must be made to face the full rigours of the Law”, he stated.
