Fire this dawn totally razed the Odawna Pedestrian Market, near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra, destroying goods worth millions of cedis.

The fire which is believed to have started around 1 a.m. affected all structures at the market. Though the immediate cause of the outbreak is yet to be established, traders suspect foul play.

The fire which is believed to have started around 1 a.m., destroyed goods such as clothes, footwear, cosmetics, groceries, stationery among others.

The traders some of whom are yet to come to terms with their loss accused the Ghana National Fire Service of not doing much. While suspecting foul play leading to the fire outbreak, some of them however have asked government for assistance.

The NDC Vice Presidential candidate, Prof. Naana Jane OpokuAgyemang, who was at the scene to assess the extent of damage, asked the traders to exercise restraint. She said as a country, issues of fire outbreak must be dealt with seriously.

Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service were on sight to douse the fire. The Pedestrian Shopping Mall was established in 2007 as a one-stop shopping Centre for pedestrians who commute to and from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to other parts of the capital.
