The Deputy Minister of Information, Pius Hadzide, has appealed to chiefs and community leaders to compliment government’s efforts in awareness creation on the safety protocols of COVID-19 to stop community spread.

He said as custodians of the land, traditional leaders cannot be left out in sensitisation and adherence of the protocols in their areas, to ensure that the country succeeds in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Hadzide made the appeal at the Volta Region House of Chiefs in Ho at a ceremony to swear in new members to reconstitute the House.

He said though the pandemic has not devastated the economy due to stringent measures being implemented by the government and stakeholders, the country is not out of the woods yet, hence government’s resolve to engage traditional leaders to lead the fight in their communities.

The reconstitution of the Volta Region House of Chiefs saw 100 Paramount Chiefs from the Volta Region being sworn in as members.

Members whose paramountcies fall in the Oti Region are scheduled to be sworn in as members of the new Oti Region House of Chiefs.
