Traffic congestion in cities bane to Ghana’s economic development – Dr. Mensah Abrompa

Director General of the National Development Planning Commission NDPC, Dr. Mensah Aborampa has expressed concern about traffic congestion in the country’s major cities. According to him, congestion impacts negatively on economic development.

It is for this reason that the transport sector which holds the key to development must be critically looked into and steps taken to address the challenges, to facilitate socio economic development.

He also stressed the need for the transport sector to integrate, coordinate and develop the sector that is critical in the realization of the government’s flagship programmes such as 1D1F, Planting for Food Jobs and Export as well as the modernization of the railway sector. Dr Aborampa was opening the 2021.

Transport Sector Review Conference in Kumasi, under the theme, ”Consolidating the Gains of the Transport Sector Through Effective Integration.”  

He said the transport sector development index as published at the World Economic Forum placed Ghana fifth, below South Africa, Gambia, Senegal and Liberia, indicating that the country has a long way to go.
