Sixty youth at the Mafi Dedukope community in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, Ghana have received Vocational Skills Training in a bid to make them employable.

The training initiative is part of the True Worshippers Prophetic Dance Ministries’ outreach programme aimed at reducing teenage pregnancy and unemployment in the area.

Founder, Minister Vincent Anowie, says it’s the Christian organisation’s contribution to addressing socio-economic challenges and impacting lives in the country.

Minister Vincent Anowie.

“We are doing this because there are a lot of teenage pregnancies in this particular community. We want to make sure we eradicate teenage pregnancy in this community, so we are trying our best to help them. We are coming up with a very huge project called the tent project, and it’s building community within community, so we thought it wise to come to this community to offer free vocational skills training to the youth, widows, and people who are really going through tough times.”

“We were able to train 60 people and we had 4 different programs—Fabric Print Making, Pastries, Detergents and Bead Making. It’s in four sections; the first one was Training, the second one is Exhibition, the third one is Graduation with a certificate for all the 60 participant and the last one was Awarding the Best 8 students with Material and Tools to work with,” he said on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

Anowie explained that the project also trains people, especially the youth, with skills in other crafts.

“The way forward for True Worshippers Prophetic Dance Ministries is to put up an ultra-modern Vocational Skill Center to be able to help people in the Volta community, Ghana, and West Africa at large. We intend to scout for people and bring them to the facility to train them.”

“We have been in this charity business since 2013. We have been impacting the lives of a lot of people—the physically challenged, less privileged, deprived communities, prisons, the streets, secondary schools—and by the grace of God, we have turned lives around.”

In his view, supporting people with skills will help them earn a livelihood.

“With the deprived communities, we have been able to train a lot of people for them to be able to support their families with this skills training.”

“The Vocational Skills was in full section. The first one was Training, the second one was an Exhibition. And they exhibited the things they produced during the training; all the 60 students were awarded with certificates. Afterward, the best eight students and best two from each class were set up for small-scale business for them to be able to trade for themselves and help their families.”

He called on other organisations in Ghana to come together to enhance national development in the country.

“This is a Christian organisation and we would call on all Christians to come on board to partner with us for us to be able to touch lives and affect the world positively.”

Also speaking at the venue was the Community Chief of Mafi Dedukope, Torgbui Dedu IV, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the initiatives of the group.

True Worshippers Prophetic Dance Ministries is a non-governmental organisation that was founded on September 1, 2013, in Ghana, West Africa that adapts evidence-based intensive support models to provide homes for the homeless and at-risk youths and create opportunities for them to transform the current continuum of care from managing homelessness to ending homelessness.

They also volunteer in schools, orphanages, hospitals, prisons, village life outreach, and street outreach.

Their vision is to drive and sustain change for homeless and at-risk youth and society. We envision a permanent systemic change within the child welfare system that allows all Ghanaian homeless and at-risk youth the opportunity to transform the current continuum of care from managing homelessness to ending homelessness. Its primary mission is to assist the homeless, and one of its distinguishing features is to reach out to children in underserved communities in order to change their lives.
